Later in the decade the nation was in the “Golden Age” after the Korean war.
Life in America was idyllic.
I remember Mom came to school when I was in first grade and helped me learn to write. You see I had followed the teachers (Ms Mears) instructions literally and was mirror writing. I have been told there was some discussion of whether to force me to learn to write with my right hand. In the end I figured out how to get it done. Perhaps one reason my penmanship is not as neat as other left handed people has to do with my perception that everyone was waiting on me because the teacher taught the right handed folks then came back and taught me separately. Who knows what the impact was - perhaps it drove me to learn more or faster than my classmates!
My siblings started their own families during this decade.
